Another crap week!

As usual, I've been reading the papers, and listening to the news on the TV and radio this week, hoping that the Government will announce something that they are going to do FOR me.

As usual, all I've seen and heard, is what they're going to do TO me!

And they want me to vote for them?

The idiots!

Gordon Brown has two years to turn things round for Labour, but somehow, I don't think he will.

Good day, Sir Worm (hey, knighthoods all around, I say!),

I was just reading your sidebar and your note that your roots are with the Labour Party. I understand the basic raison d'ĂȘtre of the Labour Party: for years, English working people were treated like dirt and held on the edge of penury by their employers, the higher classes, and the government. But that's no longer the case: wages are better, the working man can support a family, the government has provided a social safety net, and the class-based social walls and limitations are cracking, if not breaking altogether.

So what, really, is Labour's stated reason for its existence, and what ends does it pursue when it achieves power? Just how much socialism is enough for Labour? Just how much social engineering is enough? Just what parts of the traditional English identity - if any are left - do they still consider distasteful anachronisms, needing reform?

These are all rhetorical questions, of course, but I guess the real question is, where on earth can they go from here? (I would ask that question about their cousins in Canada, the Liberal Party.) I can understand why upstart, nationalist parties would make inroads when the mainstream parties cease to represent the people who voted for them.

Sorry for the rambling nature of this comment. Best regards.

Hi again el cerdo.
Believe me, the working Englishman is still treated like dirt!
Because we all work harder to improve out lot, we are more affluent, so they screw us even more to pay for their failed policies!
Labour seem to be hell bent on dismantling everything that my ancestors fought tooth and nail to achieve. They must be turning in their graves!
Fond regards.
